Allergist

Since little miss L was 9 months old we've known about her food allergies! We learned about them the hard way by giving her scrambled eggs for breakfast, shortly after eating a few bits her face was red and swollen and she was coughing/gasping for air, we rushed her to the er thankfully their was no traffic and we got there REALLY fast! After being in the ER for a few hours they drew labs and everything we were sent to an allergist!

We did just about a full screen of allergens, the doctor asked about family history of food allergies and I told him about my nephew who is VERY allergic to peanuts! We already knew eggs were a problem, but he wanted to see just how bad it was!

On the skin test, they do your histamine as a scale so hers at the time was a 7. So 1-7, 7 being as bad as it got! Peanuts got a 7! They dropped the egg white and yoke protein on her arm before they even pricked it, it started to swell and it had dripped on her back and that also started to swell, so Egg was a 7 also! We tested soy since it was in the same family it was a 6! So from an early age we've carried around epi pens and have been very careful!

This egg allergy has caused some issues with vaccines, the MMR, Flu, and now H1N1 shots are all egg based! Her first MMR we went to the allergist, he did a skin test with it first not problem but still she got it in three parts! And up to this day we give it in two parts!

Her Pediatrician recommended that we have her re-tested since it's been a long time, and she really wanted her to have a flu shot! They set it up for us and got us in rather quick! I couldn't run the date by Josh first to make sure he could get off, because the warning was it was an 2-3 hour appt. and I didn't want to take J!

Josh had meetings and couldn't get out... so I freaked out! Lucky for me my mil called that night and I told her about L's appt and how we are going to the allergist but Josh can't stay home with J and I'm slightly freaking out because well he just wont do good and I need to be there to hold L! She offered to come to town and keep him! REALLY! So a huge thanks to her for staying with our wild one!

We got to our appt. bright and early and the tears started! This time her histamine was a 9! So we retested peanuts and egg white, egg yokes, and a few others! Her peanut was still a 9,(scary) but her egg yoke was 1, and her egg white was 3! WOOHOO still can't eat "raw eggs" but in bake goods we'll be fine! And we can now do flu shots!

She did a great job, and I'm very proud of her for doing it, so was the doc because he gave her a TON of toys!

before it all started she didn't want me to take her photo!
Okay her histamine is right under the "a", the peanut is on the right two down... the biggest one! The egg white is four down on the left!
After it was done... and the talk of a another shot!
